Shae and Will have been taking guitar lessons recently. After a bit of gentle persuasion, they gave us a little demonstration of their musical talents at the weekend. I grabbed my camera, and managed to get a few really natural shots while they concentrated on making beautiful music. These images definitely work better in black and white, giving a slightly moodier, more chilled out feeling. Cute hey?

Since Lucy was born back in September I have been attempting at least one photo per day. Most days I take many more! She is changing so much and most of the time it isn’t difficult to get ideas for pictures as she learns new skills, makes new faces and produces new facial expressions. I look at websites, books and magazines to get ideas but some days I can’t think of anything new. Other days, there is a just a magic moment which produces a fresh idea for a photograph.
Lucy has only just started to enjoy “peekaboo”! She loves snuggling with a pink and white wrap and the other day I was playing with her, making a tent above her chair, hiding and then pulling the cloth up. This made her smile and giggle. I grabbed the camera, snapped a few quick shots and the moment was gone. This wasn’t something I learned from a book or an idea gained from looking at another person’s pictures. It was just Lucy and I in a special moment we shared! I think the image works equally well in colour and black and white.
Sometimes it is tough to keep coming up with “fresh ideas” but I love it when I have that little flash of inspiration which creates something which I know will be special in years to come. The joy (I actually just mis-typed job, but I guess that works equally well!) is to always be looking for the different angle, the unusual lighting, a different view on the world. I love the fact that I will never have done it all, learned it all, figured it all out. My best image yet is always just around the corner!

When I was still pregnant with Lucy, I asked for suggestions for props for baby photography in anticipation of my new photography project! A friend commented that “all you need is bub” rather than lots of fancy props, and I tend to agree. However, in recent months I have had the joy of photographing my little lady and have had plenty of chance to experiment (or play!) with different set ups, positions, props and camera settings. Whilst I still love the very clean and simple shots, I have to say I just love to use a basket as part of the picture. There is just something adorable about a baby in a basket! Here are two favourite basket photographs!

This year will be our first Christmas with little our little one. She is only 3 months old so really doesn’t know what is going on, but it definitely feels different … a little bit more exciting, more magical, more special. I have taken hundreds of pictures of her since she has been born. She is changing so quickly and makes me smile and laugh every single day. I am so happy to be Lucy’s Mum! I know as the months and years go on, there will be tantrums and tears, challenges and moments of pure frustration, but she will always be our girl! We are enjoying the moment whilst looking forward to the year ahead with excitement.
This picture of her is probably a bit ‘cheesy’, but it makes me smile! It just had to be done!
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

It was just over three months ago that I was preparing for the arrival of our own baby girl. I remember so clearly that those last few weeks of pregnancy are filled with anticipation, excitement and a few nerves about what comes next. It was so wonderful to be asked to photograph Emily, and her fiance Ben, for a combined maternity and engagement photoshoot. They make a gorgeous couple I am sure you will agree. Emily is definitely a glowing and beautiful mamma to be. I can’t wait to meet their little baby boy when he arrives in the next few weeks. Good luck guys – you will soon be proud parents! So excited for you…

Okay, so I am a little ashamed to see that my last blog was back in July, but I have a valid excuse. I have been kind of busy…. becoming a Mummy! Our beautiful daughter, Lucy Grace Jones, arrived in this world on 20 September 2011 and she is just wonderful. I have been taking plenty of photos, but just haven’t quite got round to blogging about her, until today! I have been trying to take photos every day but as you can imagine, it isn’t always possible. Some days are a little hectic and getting behind the lens just doesn’t happen. Looking back at the photos from the last couple of months, it shows just how much and how quickly Lucy is growing and changing.
When I was pregnant, many people told me to treasure every moment because it goes by so fast and I have to say I can see what they mean. The photos help me to remember her little expressions and show her character emerging more every day.
Here are just a few ‘favourites’ of Miss Lucy

Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph a fantastic event on North Stradbroke Island (NSI), affectionately known as “Straddie” by locals and regular visitors. Hosted by NSI youthlink (www.facebook.com/nsi.youthlink) , the youth and community event celebrated the return of the hundreds of humpback whales which migrate past the island each year. Steve from sandology created amazing sand sculptures which inspired the kids (and some grown ups) to make their very own sand creations in a competition. Drumming, circus skills, dance and stilt walking were provided by the very impressive Fiesta Entertainment (www.fiestaentertainment.com.au). The event was a photographer’s treat with bold shapes, bright colours, many textures and the beautiful light of a bright Straddie winter day. Everyone involved in the event seemed to have lots of fun and there was a great atmosphere. The afternoon concluded with an impressive fire show as the sun set over the ocean and the tide crept in. I would like to share just a few of my favourite images from the day. Enjoy!
